I dream constantly about what car, sports car, sub-supercar, supercar, or hypercar, I would buy once I finally get the right job, have little expenses, the starts align, and I can finally afford to live the dream. I'll arrange some categories and feel free to answer as you wish.
Here's mine:
Category 1: Sportscar (Under $50,000)
I really do love my Genesis, and its a great sportscar, but If I had a little extra dough I think I would spring for a new Stingray, but others have crossed my mind including a used Evora, used CLK Black, maybe a Cayman, and it would be difficult to say until I actually have the money.
Category 2: Sub-Supercar ($50,000 - $100,000)
I'm really feeling Aston Martin here, or possibly used Gallardo or R8.
Category 3: Supercar ($100,000 - $...)
Of course, the praise the 458 Speciale has gotten has really turned me toward the dark side of wanting to own a Ferrari, but what would most likely happen here is a used 12C or 650S.
Category 4: Hypercar ($... +)
McLaren P1.

I will buy a new Corvette someday.
That aside, I'm hoping to buy a C6 ZR1 at some point. It would be my weekend corvette paired to my daily new one

I like the lights on the old one, but I wish they had a V10 plus for it. The original's rear lights were my favorite on any car ever.

Good choices.
As for myself I would probably get a 996 Turbo or a GTR and then purchase some addition horsepower to the tune of a 1000.

Corvette. What generation and trim level would depend entirely on my financial situation but I'm sure I could find a way to fill out each category with a different Vette.
I was indoctrinated into the followers of Arkus of the Corvette at a young age. It'll always be my dream car.

Sub $50k
Well I have my 71' 240Z and for under 50K I would do a ground up restoration, the mechanicals are all rebuilt so it would mainly be a total repaint and preventative coating job, remove my horrible side trim, all the little details, everything that would help the car survive, I just got a rear disk kit and Enkei Comps will be here in two day, so I would upgrade the fronts brakes, rear end swap with LSD, everything etc... You know the long list we all have...
$50-$100
I'm pretty satisfied with my Z but for around 100K I might entertain something like a nice Pantera, my interests jump the cash mark quite a bit with sports cars mainly because I like older cars. The race Pantera would be over 1oo, I saw a Mangusta race car for 340, oh mama.
For Hypercar territory, no limits...
I would say for more modern an F40, older a Miura maybe, Stratos, how do you choose?

For me, I can see myself getting that sub $50K sports car. If I get anything truly expensive, I'll be worried about damaging it. I wouldn't want to buy something only to have it as a trailer queen.
As for what I'd actually get, I think any of the following:
Non-supercharged Elise
A manual C3 Corvette or a Corvette from the mid 1990s or later.
A manual Mustang... either a V8 one or one of the more recent ones with the Duratec V6.
A Porsche 911... manual, non-turbo, RWD... maybe as old as the 911SC from the late 1970s or early 1980s.
Ferrari 308/328 GTB or GTS.
Tesla Roadster... if one is available.

Yeah I have to leave it where it is for now. The front of my hood was dinged in the past so I hammered it a bit better and painted the area. Someday I will do everything, replace a fender with rust at the bottom and the hood, maybe a lighter hood since I'll paint it. We fixed the rust spots and welded some reinforcement that the Z expert I went to wanted to do. We wire brushed and undercoated it as much as possible. I have the panel for the hatch tailgate because of a few spots, but I will change that when this is done someday, for now I ground off the rust spots there and put miracle paint with some fiberglass weave on it to keep it all sealed and dry. Mine was in a guys garage for years, not a barn but its not bad for a Datsun, pretty much any Datsun will need help at this point if it hasn't had any.

Too impractical from a financial and reliability standpoint. If I can't drive it to work everyday without worrying about rock chips, door dings, etc. then it is not worth having.
